Controls
The key to mastering Infinity Empire
is effectively moving your viewpoints and
utilizing them correctly during battles,
exploration and micromanagement. Because
the game is played out in a true 3D space,
it goes without saying that mastery of it
will grant you a heightened sense of awareness.
The camera controls for Infinity Empire
let you move around in full 3D space, allowing
you to quickly get a panoramic view of large-scale
battles, or zooming in on interlopers trying
to spy on you.
The standard
controls are as follows:
Panning
The cursor keys will move the camera along
a plane parallel to the 'ground' level,
irrespective of the orientation of the camera.
Holding down the left or right key will
'side-step' the camera, and holding down
the up or down key will move the camera
up or down.
Zooming
You can move the camera along its main focus
axis - that is to say, move it towards,
or away from, units it is focusing on. The
PageUp/PageDown keys, or the mouse wheel,
both perform this function.
Orientation
You can hold down the middle mouse button
while moving the mouse to orientate the
camera.
Rotation around
an object
You can also rotate the camera around a
particular unit by holding the right mouse
button down while moving the mouse.
Keyboard Shortcuts
In most cases, knowing the shortcuts by
heart will give you the pronounced ability
to liberate your other hand to do other
things, like say, holding a sandwich, as
you devour your way to victory. Increase
your effectiveness and shorten reaction
times buy committing these to memory.

Multiple
Selections
Your strategy will
only be as effective as your ability to
manage your fleet. During large-scale encounters,
battles are often too chaotic to keep up
with, and solid preparation determines who
will emerge the victor.
Given the strengths and weaknesses
of each unit available to each faction,
it is wise to group your units accordingly.
Concentration of firepower plays an important
role during skirmishes. Always assign one
preset to your entire force so you can easily
order the entire fleet to concentrate all
fire on a particular enemy ship.
All versions of Infinity
Empire from version 4.347 onwards feature
the ability to select multiple units, and
assign these units to a group for easy reselection.
Selection
To select
multiple units, hold down the CONTROL key
as you left-click on a unit. Each unit that
is selected will appear listed in the command
menu on screen, along with the menu options
that are common to all of those units. While
these units are selected you can issue orders
as usual and they will all respond.
For example,
with 3 scouts selected there will be a menu
command to 'survey' for resources as usual.
But if that selection group consisted of
mixed units - say a scout and a large warship
- only the commands common to the those
units would be available.
Assigning to a group
While multiple units
are selected you can assign them to a hotkey
by holding down the CONTROL key and pressing
a number key on the main keyboard from 1
to 0. Ten hotkeys in total. Once a group
has been assigned to a function key you
can simply press that key to recall the
selection group. If you are in Empire View
when you press the assigned key you will
be taken to detail view centered on the
first unit in the group.
For example,
with 3 large warships selected you could
hold control and press 5. These warships
can now be selected at any time by pressing
5 or the numbered buttons at the top of
your screen.
