During Oculus Connect 4 (OC4) in October the company unveiled its very first all-in-one, standalone virtual reality (VR) headset, the Oculus Go. Since then little has been mentioned about the headset, especially when it comes to actual content. Today, Polish developer Gamedust has broken the silence, revealing that its WW2 aerial combat title Overflight – currently available for Samsung Gear VR – will be ported to Oculus Go, with several new additions to mark the launch.

Overflight takes place in the skies of war torn Europe, where players can pilot Spitfire’s and Messerschmitt BF109’s either dogfighting against AI in single-player mode or head online to fight friends in the multiplayer. What Gamedust plans on doing next year is to introduce a single-player campaign mode alongside the launch of Oculus Go.

The campaigns story line is as follows: “Based on unconfirmed war legends, it covers a unique story that occurred just after WWII in South America. As a young and talented pilot you will be unexpectedly thrown into the net of conspiracy, politics and dogfights, that can change the history. Get twisted into the plot between hired guns and secret weapons that can turn the odds of winning the conflict.”

The campaign mode will be part of a wider Overflight 2.0 update which will be rolled out next year which will also include new maps. While the story-driven experience will be geared towards showcasing the best of Oculus Go, including the use of Spatial Audio and redesigned steering, the update will still be compatible with Samsung Gear VR.

Gamedust has also noted that future plans for 2018 include development of new multiplayer content to build up a thriving online community as well as new mechanics to improve gameplay.

Currently Oculus Go has been given a rough release window of ‘early 2018’ by Oculus, with a retail price of $199 USD. Detailed specifications have yet to be released but it’ll likely feature a processor such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 which can be found in the HTC Vive Focus.
