As a Japanese style fantasy MMORPG set during the Bakumatsu period in Japan, apart from Weapon Evolution System which allows players to evolve the weapons they wield, Blade Chronicle features another unique system called Combat Style System which allows players to customize their combat style.
Combat Style System
Currently, there are three combat styles available, offensive, defensive and supporting styles. Player’s combat style depends on the weapon he/she wields. And the style changes as the equipped weapon changes. Players can select any of the combat styles to learn as long as they get a proper weapon.
At the beginning, players can only learn defensive style. They have to achieve certain goals in order to learn offensive or supporting ones.
Defensive Style - Defensive players have good defense, common attack power and act fast. Defensive players must consider the balance of attack and defense carefully. They are suitable for serving as the defenders of a group. After learning defensive and offensive skills, they can do well both in group play and solo play.

Offensive Style - Offensive players have high health, attack power and a high critical strike chance but act slowly. If they cannot defeat the opponent before their weak points are found, they will very likely land themselves in a difficult position. As good damage dealers, offensive players are responsible for dealing damage in a group. Therefore, offensive players mainly learn offensive skills.

Supporting Style - Through casting skills, supporting players can help themselves and other players in the same group to increase stats, abilities and restore health. Different from defensive players and offensive players, supporting players have to carry weapon(s) in order to restore the required energy for casting spells. As the name implies, supporting players are the supporters of a group. While playing solo, supporting players can be quite strong if they cast their spells properly. Supporting players mainly learn supporting skills. But if they wield a proper weapon, they can also learn offensive skills.
