Summary:
On the 15/9/17, the greatly anticipated free-to-play MMORPG, Exteel was finally released for open-beta, allowing gamers to jump in and experience, first hand, the brutal, metal grinding, combat that one would expect from giant gun and sword wielding mechanized giants hell-bent on nothing, but the oblivion of one another.
Strangely, even for people such as myself who feel right at home when playing any fps/3ps, the game play of exteel is a little different and make take some getting use to. The ability to move around whilst dashing and utilizing your jump boosters is one skill you should really try and master early on, because trust me, most of this game depends on your ability to out maneuver your opponent.
There are several different kinds of game play, including the classics such as death match and team death match. However, thrown into this mix, exteel has also included, last stand, in which you and your team must defend a number of positions located throughout a designated map from horde after horde of robotic npcs. This really is not as easy as it sounds and unless you have the ability to work in a team, you will surely fail. Furthermore, the game also includes territory control, which sees two teams pitted against one another; in an attempt to not only defend their territory, but also to capture that which is held by the enemy. At the end of the day, who ever hold the most wins and are able to accumulate some nice points.
Now from these battles, you will gain credit, the main form of currency used in the game. With this, you are able to enter the store and buy various kinds of weapons, parts for your mech and other custom items, such as paint. Essentially, in terms of what you choose to do, you can either buy an already constructed mech, also named a set, or your can build your own from the ground up. Be warned however, this will quickly get expensive.
The game play on exteel is fast, fun and furious. Of course, the weapons and armor you are able to gather will help your chances in battle, but only slightly, as much of this game comes down to skill. I highly recommend this game to all sci-fi anime fans and those who just love giant robots. However, I would also recommend that if you are into games such as Gunz, or other action based games, that you give it a go.
Though fun and great for a laugh, I am unsure of what the future holds for this game, as the game play can get a little old after several rounds. Nonetheless, get in, get on and strap yourself down for some frantic fun.
