Review 1( By KKnd )
Introduction: I have had the opportunity to play Vanguard since the end of Beta 2. I?ve had a lot of experiences and mixed feelings about the game. However, overall, I really enjoy playing and my excitement grows more and more the closer we approach the release.
Graphics and Performance: My Current System: AMD 3200 64 FX Nvidia 6800 (256) 2 GB pc2700 DDR (333 mhz) 10k rpm 160 Maxtor HDD (best thing in this system right now)
The graphics are amazing. Each starting area is very unique from one another. It doesn?t matter if you begin in Hathor Zhi, the dust storm ridden land of the Dark Elves, Grimsea Watch (now) for the Goblins, or even at that magical tree in Leth Nurae, the land of the High Elves. The beauty of each of these areas is just astounding.
A lot say the animations are boring. Even though they are not finished, I find it amazing to see the style and look change as you level. Some are similar, yes, but over all each class has its own style of casting or melee combat.
I have noticed, though, that in a few areas some of the static items are cloned. This causes some funny rendering. Both objects are trying to be displayed on your monitor and you will end up with a flashing, almost streaked like item. Whether it?s a rock or a doorway, for me it?s annoying.
Having the settings on medium has not been a problem for me and this is on an older, lower end video card. Obviously, the higher you can set them the more amazing they will become, though. At lowest performance they appear to be your basic, almost older style. Yet, on highest quality all I can say is "WOW!" (Not WoW, but the actual word WOW!)
Granted, since logging in today I have noticed a big difference. It may be due to the larger number of testers or the new additions they need to optimize. As I stated above, before today I was able to run on medium settings, modified so that I had almost all settings at 50%, with the clip plane and tree detail at 100%. This would give me about 12-15 FPS in cities, except Khal where I get only about 9-12 FPS. I also get around 20-25 FPS outside. Mind you, I do turn off the Volumetric Clouds. That really helps a LOT!
