First impression: To begin the game I expected it to have the same overall feel of BF2 its predecessor. I was surprised that they were able to give this game its own identity and style. I fell in love with graphics and overall atmosphere of the game and found that the action was thrilling to point of excitement and was drawn into the commradery and competition which is unique to all BF2 Games.
Graphics (9)
The video card I am using is the AGP ATI X1600 XT with 512 MB, and two coolers, AMD FX 53 Processor and 2 Gig of Super Talent Ram.
The graphics of the game are definitely geared towards video cards capable of 3rd generation DirectX and OpenGL. In fact I recommend that people who truly wish to reap the benefits of the graphics quality of this game invest in a mid/high to high range video card, that isnĄ¯t to say other cards are not supported EA has supported a fair number of cards and of course are writing patches to include a much larger variety. There are different modes for graphics quality that are all tweakable in the control console, ranging from user preferences and of course preset, low, medium and high. I have played all modes and have settled with high as this generation of the game seems to run much easier graphically then its other predecessorĄ¯s.
I admit that I am driven to the game by the quality of the graphics, they are terrific, vivid landscapes with wonderful texturing and amazing structures set this game apart from the other eye candy on the market at the moment in its respective class. The world of BF 2142 is actually set in two different game themes Conquest and Titan, Titan being the most creative and my personal favorite as visually and functionally there are actually 2 worlds within one dimension of game play, the landscape and then the entirely separate world that happens on the Titan simultaneously.
Character look and movement is impressive and extremely life like as you go through the game, ground vehicles, hover craft style tanks, and air craft all add visually to this game and of course the battle walkers that are mechanical extensions of a mech/tank/anti air vehicle all move with superior visual appeal.
Some visual flaws that people experience are of course video lag, this is not the fault of the code in my opinion as it is most likely a combination of video card, pc ram and cpu speed on the user end, and then of course it is dependant on the quality of the game server you are playing in. Some servers have the issue of frame rate lag especially in Titan Mode while the Titans are close together (which always happens by end of a round) and some do not. Personally I am experiencing on average 50 ¨C 60 fps which is very good considering other games in its class, and more often video lag is due to the other players pings combined with poorer quality servers then EA intended.
For Graphics I give the game 9 out of 10 for its quality and detail and function. If EA can find a way to eliminate Titan Movement lagging the video I will change that to 10.
